How to Perform a Granular (File or DB) Restore
Last Updated: December 7, 2025Granular Restore vs. Full Restore A granular restore is ideal for recovering individual components, ensuring minimal data loss: File Restore: Used if you accidentally deleted a crucial image or modified a theme file incorrectly. Database Restore: Used if a database table was corrupted, or incorrect data was written. Steps for File Restoration Access Backup Tool: Navigate to the “Backup Manager” tool in cPanel. Select File Backup: Choose the “File Backups” option for the desired date. Navigate and Select: Browse the file directory structure (public_html). Locate the specific file or folder you need to recover. Restore: Click the “Restore Selected” button. The restored file will replace the current file instantly. Steps for Database Restoration Access Database Backups: In the Backup Manager, select the “Database Backups” option. Choose Database: Select the specific database name you need to restore. Restore: Click the restore button. Note: Restoring a database will overwrite the current database entirely.
How to Perform a Full Site Restore
Last Updated: December 7, 2025When to Perform a Full Restore A full restore is recommended in severe cases: After a successful, unrecoverable hack or malware attack. After a major configuration change or update resulted in complete site failure. Initiating a Full Restore via cPanel Access the Backup Tool: Log into cPanel and navigate to the “Files” section, then select the “Backup Manager” or “JetBackup” tool. Select Date: Choose the specific date you wish to restore from. Always select a date before the security incident or error occurred. Select Full Restore: Choose the option to restore the “Full Account.” Confirmation: Confirm the restore. The process may take 15 minutes to several hours, depending on the size of your account. You will be notified via email upon completion. Important Considerations Data Loss: Restoring will overwrite all current data with the data from the selected backup date. Any changes (new content, emails) made after the backup date will be lost. Uptime: The website may experience a brief period of instability during the final stage of the restore process.
